One of the best pieces of advice I have ever gotten was in a greasy, busy McDonalds. My friend told me, "Know Jesus as everything. Know Him has the divine Healer, your Savior, your Teacher, your Lover."
Last night, for some reason, it made 100% sense that Jesus was my lover.
Jesus is the most romantic person I have ever met. He loves me despite my brokenness. When He was bleeding and struggling to breathe His only thought was of me. He was seen as a fool to save me. He died for me, because He loves.
He is a gentleman. He waits for me to come to Him, He never pressures, shoves, or pushes. He is there for me whenever I need Him. I never need to ask about Him, because the first words on His tongue is "how are you, my love?" He'll lay down His very own flesh and blood for me, like a gentleman lays down his coat for the lady.
He wants to appease me, He wants to make me happy. He gives me flowers on the sides of rocky roads, He gives me sunsets in the morning that awake my heart. He gives me the beautiful, sweet song of the birds because He knows that I love music.
Think about it- the world could've been black and white. Music doesn't have to exist. Food doesn't have to have taste. But God knows that will make us happy, so He gave it to us.
God loves. God is love. How do we, sinners, messed up people, deserve to have an intimate relationship with the one Who is Love? Or more importantly, how do we deserve to be sought-ought, by Love?
You are sought-out by Jesus. Jesus is at the door of your heart, every day. You are always on His mind. He is the one begging you to open yourself up to Him. He is the Healer, the Teacher, the Lover. The most important, written about, talked about, and adored person in the universe wants, desires, craves a RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU.
If you feel unloved, hopefully that brings comfort. God is your lover. He wants to kiss the flaws away. He wants to hold you when you don't believe that you are loved. He wants to be there for you, thick and thin.
"Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored and
I love you."
(Isaiah 43: 4)
That verse rocks my world every single time I read it. The first time I read it I teared up. We know God loves us, if you are a cradle Christian you've been hearing that your entire life. But this verse makes it real. This is God honoring you, saying "You are the most important thing in my eyes. I respect you and wow I love you so much."
And what kind of made me stop and think was that I've never really heard God say the phrase, "I love you" in the Bible. I mean, obviously I got the jist that God loves and stuff, but this verse just hit it straight. In the Old Testament, God was seen as all-powerful and One to be feared (and rightly so!) But think of how crazy amazing it would be to have this God who had conversations with His people, and helped and also disciplined his people to be like. "Yo, I love you a lot. Like a lot a lot because you are so beautiful."
And it doesn't stop there. God goes on to say,
"I give people in return for you, and nations in exchange for your life...I will say to the north: Give them up! and to the south: Do not hold them! Bring back my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 43: 4+6)
When I read this I was like... wait what? People in return for me? Nations in exchange to my life? And I'm no scholar, but I do know that land was a big deal back then. The more land you had, the "richer" and more "well-off" you were seen. God is saying He'll give up everything for them.
Just like God gives up everything for you.
And the only thing that you have to do to deserve it is to be His. Simply be His. And nothing you can do can change that you belong to Him. Nothing.
But yeah, frankly, we don't deserve it. We mess-up, we are broken, we lie, we cheat, we pretty much do everything we know God doesn't want us to do. But God doesn't care what we are made up of, he cares who we are, for our identity belongs in Him. Because from the moment you were conceived, from the moment the world began God thought of you and said. "I want you. Even in the mess-ups, brokenness, lies, cheating... I want you."
"But now, thus says the Lord, who created you Jacob, and formed you Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine."
(Haha sorry I didn't plan on this post being me fan-girling over Isaiah but whatever :P )
If you don't believe me, read the Gospels. Read Isaiah. Read the Psalms. Since the beginning of time, people have understood God as Love. As our lover.
He is love over and over, He never fails. Even though I don't deserve it. Even though you don't deserve it. He is love. He is love. Always and forever, God is love.
I hope you believe that. I hope you know that. I hope you seek out Jesus as your lover, before anything else. :)
All through Christ,
